Every Truck’s a Garbage Truck

Every Truck’s a Garbage Truck

Every truck’s a garbage truck,
Louisa said
As she lifted her head
From her thread and her needle
And waited there
Then she resumed
stitching an umbrella’s rib
The truck, though gone, still filled the road
with its fumes —
And doom, did you know,
comes from dom
Which means law,
The law of the shepherd —
the true law, however,
comprehends far more than force,
than hurtling rocks
Like when one should launch one
At locks, and at clocks
